What Counts as a Save
A save is credited to a relief pitcher who finishes a game your team wins, without being the winning pitcher. The pitcher must record at least one out while protecting the lead, under one of these situations:
Condition Entry Lead Requirement Minimum Effort
Standard Save Lead of 3 runs or fewer Pitch at least 1 full inning (3 outs)
High Leverage Tying run is on base, at bat, or on deck Record at least 1 out to finish the game
Long Relief Any lead size (even blowout) Pitch the final 3 complete innings
Step-by-Step Guide to Getting a Save
Establish a Lead
Use your starter or early relievers to get a lead. If you’re grinding saves in Conquest or Mini Seasons, make sure your team is ahead before the final inning.
Check the Score Situation
Lead 1–3 runs: You can sub in your closer at the start of the final inning.
Lead 4+ runs: The tying run must be at least “on deck.” You can intentionally walk batters with your current pitcher to create a high-leverage save situation before bringing in the closer.
Warm Up Your Closer
Open the Bullpen menu to warm up your relief pitcher. Entering cold reduces accuracy and stamina, making a save much harder.
Bring in the Relief Pitcher
Swap in a relief pitcher (not your starter) during the qualifying situation.
Finish the Game
Record the final outs while keeping the lead. If the lead is lost, it counts as a Blown Save (BS).
Extra Tips for Diamond Dynasty
Conquest & Mini Seasons: These are short 3-inning games. To earn a save, enter the 3rd inning with a lead of 3 or fewer runs and pitch the entire inning with a single reliever.
The “Blowout” Save: In 9-inning Play vs. CPU games, you can earn a save even in a blowout by having one reliever pitch the 7th, 8th, and 9th innings consecutively.
Mission Strategy: Pair your saves grind with PXP missions or Spotlight missions, so each save helps progress multiple objectives at once.
